Sew Thrifty is a peer-to-peer marketplace where sewists buy and sell fabric, patterns, and sewing supplies directly with each other. The platform connects makers looking to rehome materials they'll never use with sewists searching for affordable, quality supplies. By facilitating direct transactions between community members, Sew Thrifty keeps craft materials in circulation and out of landfills while helping sellers earn money and buyers find exactly what they need for their next project.

Founded by Michele Jones, an industrial engineer and management consultant with experience in product ownership and management, Sew Thrifty was born from personal experience. Michele started sewing during the COVID-19 pandemic as a creative outlet and quickly accumulated more fabric than she could use in a lifetime; a problem she discovered every sewist faces. The idea for Sew Thrifty crystallized when Michele met Mary, a woman forced to sell her entire crafting collection during a move with no easy way to connect with makers who would treasure those materials. Michele applied her decade of experience in process improvement, operations optimization, and product management to build a solution designed specifically for the sewing community's needs.

Sew Thrifty launched publicly on November 29, 2025, and sold 42 items totaling nearly $300 in revenue within its first three days. The platform arrives at a critical moment for the sewing community; as Joann Fabrics closes stores nationwide, sewists are seeking alternatives for affordable supplies. With sustainability and community at its core, Sew Thrifty offers both an economic solution and an environmental one, ensuring that quality materials find their way to makers who will use them rather than ending up in landfills. Michele continues to work as a consultant while building Sew Thrifty and documents her founder journey on TikTok, where her content has reached over 22,000 views.
